...no funerals...

They say no mourners, but I'm mourning. I'm mourning that this duology is over. I adored the first book, but the with the addition of the second, the two paired go up in my list of ABSOLUTE PERFECT BOOKS EVAR (which, Ima be honest with you, is kind of hard to get into. The Raven Boys is in there. Harry Potter is in there. You know what's not? The Hunger Games trilogy or even the author's first set of work, the Grisha Trilogy. SCANDALOUS)
This was so delicious. It was. Fulfilling, never disappointing, it whetted my appetite for a last job/heist story and satisfied with the level of a Shawshank Redemption-style smack down. It gave me spine-shiveringly-fingers-grazing-slightly-hungrily romantic moments, sweet first love moments, hungry lip-devouring moments. It gave me moments where I wanted to fist pump the hell out of every character, and then clutch them to my chest.and make soothing crooning moments.I read the entire thing in 6 hours. Then I re-read the ending. Multiple times. Tears and shivers and laughing and crying all at the same time. Every time.
I CANNOT ENUNCIATE ENOUGH MY APPRECIATION FOR THIS BOOK. I literally gasped at the presentation of one character who I didn't see coming (literally or figuratively) but was so delighted at the brilliance of the author's move. Everything fit. A perfect puzzle of a story that comes to the most resounding satisfying snap at the ending. I AM NOT KIDDING. BUY THIS BOOK. Actually, buy Six of Crows first, devour that (if you have't) and then BUY THIS BOOK. And if you're like me, voraciously devour it. Then as soon as you hit the ending, immediately go back and start re-reading, because you know you've missed details the first time around because the pacing of the story wouldn't allow you to slow down and appreciate the nuances. That's what 2nd readings are for. And 3rd. AND CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH FOR NO LOVE TRIANGLES?!!!?!!?! (THAT didn't count. IT doesn't count. I'm not counting IT.)
Thank you Leigh Bardugo, for this duology. Thank you for adding to my miserly BEST READS EVAR pile. Thank you for Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Wylan, Nina, Matthias, Sprecht, Rotty and every other brilliant character you've made so readable and loveable/hateable.
Although, could someone please help me out? Most of the lands are pretty obviously references to real life places. Can I get an assist on Novyi Zem? I know I should be able to figure it out - I feel like it staring at me RIGHT IN THE FACE, not mad, just....disappointed.

Loved it and cried! ♥

In this book, I came to love the characters even more. I just loved them!
Crooked Kingdom starts off with a bang, just right out there. The crew is in it from start to finish. In the first book, Six of Crows I was a little bored in the beginning and then it took off for me and I ended up loving it. This one I loved from the first paragraph.

and the others here and there through-out the book are totally awesome!
One of the crew members is kidnapped by the evil, Van Eck, and they are trying to get them back. And of course, you know they do =)
At one point though, when they were talking about torturing said person, I cringed big time at what I thought they were getting ready to do, but they didn't do that particular thing. Leigh Bardugo sure did have me on the edge of my seat saying no, no, no, no!
I loved the little backstories about the group in this book. We get to find out certain things about their home life, what they went through. I loved getting to know Jesper's father in the book, he was a really nice old man that could be a tough cookie too. It even went into Jesper's life with his mom and what happened to her.
One of the saddest I read was of Wylan's life. I mean most of them had sad lives or something happen to them but just the things in Wylan's life was/is sad and just plain evil.
But this is one bad to the bone group of people that have each each others back through the whole story. At least as much as they can. They are so great at what they do! The ordinary things and even the magical things some of them can do. AMAZEBALLS! The high wire part and the walking dead, those were cool parts. I mean the whole book is awesome, you just have to read it! Accept for one part but I digress!
This book is bloody brilliant. I know I say that a lot but there is nothing I like more than to be able to say that about a book I just read! EVEN THOUGH LEIGH BARDUGO BROKE MY HEART A LITTLE ♥
I would say more but I sort of got off track when I saw a spoiler on goodreads and I was bummed the rest of the book. So my review sort of went downhill. But, no spoilers :-)

The books starts pretty much where the last one left off

The books starts pretty much where the last one left off. The crew is still recovering and shaken by the events at the end of book one.
I thought the last book was great but this one was epic.
I don’t want to say too much to not spoil it so I will make it a short review of this book.
Okay, like I said they are still recovering from the blow of the last book, but if you know Kaz from the last book you know that he has like five plans already made to get them back on track and the crew back together.
In this book we learn so much more about all the crew members, their past, their plans for the future, they hope and dreams and is a sad realty. Relationships are strengthened but there is always the question of who they can really trust. Who will betray them next? Which is a big part to each of them but also as a crew as a whole. Plus some people still fault others of the crew for the events that took place and are holding a pretty big grudge.
There are some big twists in the book, which I mostly loved. I loved the twists just maybe not the outcome.
There were some quite brutal scenes in this book that not only showed how far some crew member would go but also some of the things they have endured in their past. But to even it out there were also some pretty sweet moments in the book, as well some heartbreaking ones. I shed tears a few times throughout the book.
The end was epic and perfect (almost) for all the crew members. It was bittersweet and a little sad.
I know I will miss all the characters in this duology, It is hard to connect to some characters in books sometimes but to love every single one of them in one book or series is pretty freaking rare. And I did. I loved the entire crew that shared this epic journey, they were super engaging and made it almost impossible to not only love one but almost all. If I had to choose some of my favorite it would be Nina and Jes, but really I liked then all , each of them for something different.
I highly recommend this series.
Overall great book, lots of twist and turns, action, sorrow, great suspense, plus love and we get a little humor.
