Sean Hyson is the Group Training Director for Men’s Fitness and Muscle & Fitness magazines. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.), he has been writing about exercise and nutrition for more than a decade. He lives in New York City, and can deadlift 500-plus pounds.

It's Okay. Nothing Spectacular

Although this book is over 300 pages, it's a fairly short read. It mainly lists the exercises with very brief description of each one. The layout is similar to a typical fitness magazine where they would have one photo of the exercise and a brief description of how to execute it.
These "best workouts" that they've listed are fairly common exercises such as bench press, squat, deadlift, dumbbell curls, pullups, etc. I don't believe there are any exercises that I've seen that I thought were unique or creative. You can get all this information if you had ever subscribed to any fitness magazines or can find them free on the internet.
Don't get me wrong. I think this book would serve someone who's new to fitness very well. It does list all the workouts that you can do in one book instead of scattered across multiple magazines and internet. But anyone who has over 6 months experience in the gym will not find the book very helpful.

101 workouts? More like 101 warmups!

Misleading title, I have previously bought (and loved) the Men's Health Big Book of Exercises. In that book they have a little section in the back with pre-made workouts, so useful! So when I ran through all of those I thought "hey this book says 101 best workouts! This book must be entirely pre-made workouts all ready to use!". NO! What the title should read is "101 best exercise movements" Yeah that's right, there are hardly any actual "workouts" in this book. They have a bunch of pages of wow 4 movements and call it a workout, the whole point of me buying this book was to take the guess work and trial and error part of creating entire routines for myself. Instead I find very basic movements that are thrown together and if one were to follow you'd be left wondering "where's the rest of the workout now that I finished my warm up?". On top of this the book is poorly organized with very general language so go ahead and try to find that arm workout, you're going to be spending a long time tracking it down. Complete waste of money and time.

Never run out of workouts

I've been reading Sean Hyson's web site for years now, and I've been really excited for this book to come out since he announced it. I finally got my hands on a copy last weekend and it has exceeded expectations in every way. What makes this book great is the same thing that makes his site so great: there is not one wasted word here. Sean cuts right to the heart of the matter every time and answers the what, when, and how of training in short order.
This book is exactly as promised: 101 workouts that will kick your ass no matter what situation you find yourself in: with access to either a full gym, only a suspension trainer, only a kettlebell, or with no equipment whatsoever. And in compiling such a huge number of workouts that can live up to the lofty title, Sean culls programming from the best minds in the fitness industry today.
We live in an era where there is an overabundance of fitness tips and advice. Anyone on the Internet can self-style him/herself as a fitness guru. Sean is one of the few real deals out there. When a workout passes muster with Sean, you can bet anything that it is effective. He doesn't make any recommendation lightly. I don't make this one lightly, either: Buy this book, keep it in your gym bag, and you will NEVER run out of workout ideas.
