Love that I can play things that sound like the classics

I have minimal piano playing skills, am an adult teaching myself.

I hate using the beginner's books with songs like "Mr. Turtle goes slow" or "The Blue Coyote." One, I have no idea if what I am am playing sounds right and well, they're childish.

So, I love that these are simple enough for me to attempt (not all are easy, but I'm working my skills up)and I can tell if I'm getting them to sound right (if I haven't heard the song I can youtube it. About 80% of the songs I can hear someone play although sometimes if the chosen selection is not the opening theme of the song I have difficulty finding it). Plus it's "grown up."

Definitely one of my favorite easy level books.

Excellent for What It Aspires To Be

I read many of the reviews here and wasn't sure if this book was what I was looking for. Would it be "too easy"? "Too hard"? "Too short?" "Too simplified"? Or, as many said, perfect for his/ her level.

Fortunately, for me it turned out to be just what I was looking for. But I do understand how difficult choosing the right level could be. This says it's a "Beginner's" book--not an "Intermediate's"--and I think that's right. You should be able to read music two octaves up from middle "C" and one octave below, but the base is simple--usually one or two notes at a time, many slow selections and almost every song is in the key of C or F.

Even as someone who doesn't sight read well, I can play the pieces from the beginning with both hands--slowly. This is a good level for me--feels very "doable" but also a challenge as my practices begin rather haltingly. I feel my sight reading is improving because the notation doesn't overwhelm a beginner with too many notes at a time.

Some people were frustrated that the pieces were short excerpts of classics--1-3 pages of music. (The notes are nice and large, by the way, which I found very helpful) For me, I really liked the shortness of the pieces because the easiest ones made good warmups and, since I don't sight read well, I appreciated the variety of options. Three pieces I recommend that I enjoyed and feel are among the easier ones are:

"Chopin's Nocturne in E flat" (arranged to be in C ). It has part of the accompaniment in the treble clef and part with bass so, while its simple bass and melody lines, it's good "thinking exercise" to switch between them as you play. Plus, it's a slow, pretty piece, nice to warmup with. Another good one for beginners (like me) is "Brahms Lullaby". And I liked "The Waltz of the Sugar Plum Fairy", too.

Nice variety--9 from Bach, 8 from Beethoven, 7 Chopin, 9 Mozart, 8 Tchaikovsky plus 1 or 2 each from Bartok, Brahms, Clementi, Debussy, Dvorak, Foster, Gluck, Grieg, Handel, Haydn, Liszt, MacDowell, Mendelsohn, Moussorgsky, Paderewski, Rameau, Rachmaninoff, Rubinstein, Saint-Saens, Satie, Scarlatti, Schubert, Schumann, Scriabin, Sibelius, Strauss,Verdi, Vivaldi, and Wagner. A very nice variety--good as a refresher (many were familiar but not by name and someI -should- have known, but didn't).

There are also little "factoids" above each piece--a few sentences of interesting information about the music or the composer. Fingering suggestions are also included. I found this a very motivating and enjoyable book at my beginning level and great for warmups/improving sight reading in a pleasurable way.

OK very simple arrangements, good exercising value for a "middle-stage" beginner

These are significantly simplified short excerpts from classical masterpieces. If you want something longer and otherwise closer to the original, look elsewhere.
On the other hand, this book may work for beginners who want to supplement their technique development with musically meaningful exercises (often based on well-known classical melodies). It is probably way too much for early beginners and too little for "advanced beginners".

About the Author

Andrew Cooksy is a chemistry professor at San Diego State University, where he teaches courses in physical and general chemistry and carries out research on the spectroscopy, kinetics, and computational chemistry of reactive intermediates in combustion and interstellar processes. He attended the Washington, D.C. public schools before receiving his undergraduate degree in chemistry and physics from Harvard College and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley.

A great book for any level

Very well written book. The review of Calculus in the first chapter is very helpful for those of us who have not taken a math course in at least 6 years. Each chapter starts with a review of topics previously covered, and then introduces the new topic. There are many worked out examples throughout the chapters, as well as sample experiments. This is a great book for someone who has some physical chemistry knowledge and wants to learn Thermodynamics.

Fast paced/rigorous

As a student this book is tricky. I feel the need to use other resources to understand the full picture. Cooksy vomits up some important quantum mechanical equations early on in the text with little context to build up stat. mech.; understandable for making a case for how grasp the macroscopic due to the microscopic canonical ensemble but nevertheless infuriating for a student new to physical chemistry and quantum mechanics.

Liam Roth was a very manipulative man who used his wealth against his wife Cassandra. He lied a lot to his family about her, it seemed he was jealous of the loving bond his wife had began with his family so he set out to ruin that bond. This was a very invigorating book with many twist & turns of how a true Love story. Cassandra had to weave her way thru all his lies & misconceptions to find her one true love with Dominic. I will recommend this book.

High Society Secret Baby by Desire author Maxine Sullivan takes family drama to a new high! Talk about two people who gave up so much for the people they loved certainly deserved a chance at love and happiness, didn't they?

Dominic Roth was an amazing man the perfect hero and an honorable one on top of everything. He would do just about anything for his family and he did when his dying brother Liam asked him to donate sperm so he and his wife Cassandra could have a child before he died. The very same woman Dominic secretly had lusted after.

Cassandra lost her parents at a young age, was sent to foster home and then to another foster home where the people adopted her and another girl Penny who Cassandra considered a sister. Her foster mom passed away and her father had to be put into a nursing facility for health care. It was so expensive that when her husband Liam declared he wanted a child and she didn't, she bargained with him to pay for her father's health care and then she would agree to have his baby. However, after Liam died she received a letter stating that she must marry his brother Dominic, that he had deeded over their home to Dominic and he insisted the marriage take place so that their daughter Nicole could continue to be raised a Roth. By doing so, would also give his parents great comfort after he was gone. If she agreed, in six months time his letter would be destroyed. Liam also insisted she marry his brother because he didn't want her marrying any one else.

Talk about secrets, the nursing home situation, desperately needing money for her father and sister and Dominic being the sperm donor. On top of that the accusations against Cassandra that she was money hungry, that she didn't marry Liam for love and that she had an affair with his best friend. Dominic and his parents believed Liam. How could her first marriage go so wrong when she had married Liam for love and in the end he hurt her. How would all of this affect Cassandra and Dominic's marriage and would they eventually fall in love?

Cassandra and Dominic married before Liam's estate was settled and took a honeymoon taking baby Nicole with them. They literally lusted after each other and let's just say when they finally act on that lust, the fire and passion leaps off of the pages. It was also rather touching and sweet reading about Dominic and Nicole bonding and it will tug at your heart reading about father and daughter getting to know each other. So many pressure upon this marriage from all of the secrets, to the white lies, the insults, and the mess Cassandra finds herself suffering over her father. On top of all of that, add to the mix the tension between Cassandra and her in-laws.

Lies always have away of surfacing and these were explosive and the drama is one you'll not want to miss. Also Dominic's and Cassandra's passion for each other and how her love grows for her new husband. Will he only ever lust after her and could he possibly grow to love her? Will they all become a family including his parents? You'll want to sincerely read High Society Secret Baby as well as Maxine Sullivan's second book , High-Society Seduction, about young widower Adam Roth. This book was full of high energy and was a most fantastic read!

Yet another book l couldnt put down... and to top it off beat my last world record and finished the book in 2 nights.. I just couldnt put it down..
Just love how Maxine writes... l love the story as you can relates to it on many levels.. death, love, marriage, babies, inlaws plus lots more... and to top it off it is written with a playful sarcastic tone which l can really relate to.. Have 3 mor of Maxines books l am about to read so l will be able to write more reviews.. l just wish Maxine could write as fasdt as l can read them =P

great resource!

A great tool for students and professionals, this book is complete yet concise. Includes hand-drawing techniques as well as Illustrator instruction. Flats are shown next to finished garments to better understand how your sketch translates to 3d. You have all the basic garment shapes but also a visual dictionary of variations that I find can be inspiring for new designs. There is written instruction, but it is also very visual which is great for creative types like myself!

The CD-Rom is the icing on the cake: It includes body and garment templates that can be manipulated in Illustrator - a priceless, time-saving resource!

I have tried to demystify the 'art' of technical drawing in this book. It's really not difficult, if you follow my step by step technique. The back section of the book is incredibly useful, as it contains clear drawings of key generic styles - its a visual dictionary of clothes.
The drawings here are not 'fashionable' - they are stripped of all 'fashion' content, therefore serve as an indicator of generic style names.
Once you have mastered the skill of 'drawing' in half and are familiar with a basic fashion vocabulary - you may steam ahead and work in this flat format to design anything you want....
A combination of draping on the stand, pattern cutting and an ability to draw flats is vital to arm you with the key skills you will need to succeed in our competitive industry today.

It's very hard to find a book that clearly illustrates a ton of flats but this book is perfect. It shows both back and front and several different kinds of details. I have dozens of books and this is the only one I will reference for my flats.

Power Distribution Networks with On-Chip Decoupling Capacitors is dedicated to distributing power in high speed, high complexity integrated circuits with power levels exceeding tens of watts and the power supply below a volt. The book provides insight and intuition into the behavior and design of integrated circuit-based power distribution systems.

The book has three primary objectives. The first is to describe the impedance characteristics of the overall power distribution system, from the voltage regulator through the printed circuit board and package onto the integrated circuit to the power terminals of the on-chip circuitry. The second is to discuss the inductive characteristics of on-chip power distribution grids and the related circuit behavior of these structures. The third objective is to present design methodologies for effciently placing on-chip decoupling capacitors in nanoscale integrated circuits.

I am happy to read this book which is practical and useful. The treatment of
electromigration is adequate. The authors cover the power distribution networks in multiple angles and present simplified rules for the designs.
The composition is smooth and well organized.

Dry catalogue of industry practice

This book is a basic review of a range of standards and industry practices for energy efficiency in telecommunications networks. It is a bit of a disappointment in that it does not really introduce the reader to concepts of energy consumption in telecommunications nor does it provide any real understanding of the challenges at hand. It is more-so a dry and methodical description of current practices. Something one can easily pick up from documents, standards and white papers on the web.
If you really want a good understanding of the issues, methods and challenges of energy efficiency in telecommunications and green networks, there are plenty of freely available pdf documents on the web. Try those.
